Demanding Truth in Treatment

Being the Parent of a WWASP student that has come to regret it, I do what I'm able to help other families involved with WWASP, or considering involvement. I feel people should understand the reality of what they are doing when they send a teen into a WWASP program, then decide for themselves if it is abusive or neglectful or troubling. I feel strongly that it is.

You should know, because they are privately owned, there is no oversight by the various states in which they are located.

There is no independent, outside authority to hold the Program accountable. The "students" have no way to contact anyone outside of the facility and report abuse, or request help. The parents who may (or may not) receive their teen's letters reporting the brutal conditions, are of no help because they have been convinced by the Program to not believe the teens. The parents are told over and over, from the first phone call, that all negative reports are the teens attempting to manipulate them. The result: there is no protection from the abuse and neglect so commonly reported to occur in these programs.

Many believe that the students, as well as the parents, are being brainwashed without their informed consent. An elementary understanding of mind control allows a person to consider what WWASP is doing, and understand it is mind control, brainwashing, behavior modification - whatever they may  call it.

You might find it interesting that the boys in the program complain of weight loss, often in excess of 20 pounds; and the girls complain of weight gains in similar amounts. I have come to believe this is a way to help facilitate the brain washing. The difference between the sexes having to do with the program's goal of making them feel despondent in the early stages of the brain washing. With the opposite sexes, you need to accomplish opposite goals with regard to weight. So you fatten the girls and thin the boys, to accomplish the same psychological toll. I feel this is the most likely explanation. But what ever the explanation, it is an extremely common complaint.

I have come to believe the frequently reported brutality is also part of creating the stress needed to facilitate the brain washing. The expectation of pain, the experience of seeing others being hurt; and being helpless to help them, is all understood to break people down mentally. I'm convinced that this is why there are such PERSISTENT & CONSISTENT reports of brutal and humiliating treatment from every WWASP program.

The no talking rule needs explaining. Lower level WWASP students may not talk, except in limited ways, for limited reasons. "May I sit?" "May I stand?" "May I enter the room?" being examples. Imagine the stress from months of not being able to have a conversation! This no talking rule often results in consequences, as it is so hard to remember not to talk. There are common accounts of students being put in the punishment area, for simply making a comment.

Speaking of consequences, you should know what is meant by OP,  R&R, Isolation, the Hobbit, Intervention, or Special Needs.

These are small places, stark and hard surfaced. When sent there, the hapless teen must maintain a stress position, much as you've read the Iraqi prisoners were made to endure. There is the "on your face" position, which is similar to the "on the Cross" position. There is the "Indian position," and the "on your knees position." The position must be maintained. No movement is allowed. If they move, they will be restrained.  "Restraint" is joint manipulation; extreme twisting and stretching of the limbs and fingers. Often times, the joints are ground into the hard surface of the floor or wall.  It is very painful. By most accounts the typical restraint goes on for 20 minutes or more, with the teen screaming for mercy and release the whole time. Restraint in the program is common. By most accounts, occurring from 3 to 5 times a day.

Then, there are the seminars. I believe the seminars to be a brainwashing event. The parents must also attend the seminars. You too, must work your program. It creates a loyalty to the program that is not easily breached. The Parents do not experience anything as intense as the teens, but it works well enough to accomplish parental control.

Of course, the Program will tell you none of this is so. They explain it all away and reassure you. They explain all about the "lying manipulators with an agenda." But I ask you to consider this important point:

Who has the greater motive to lie?
